Prayers To Pray

Ordinary Prayers

By August 14, 2017 No Comments

It’s easy to forget that stories in the Bible feature men and women who were normal and flawed individuals. The massive mercy and beauty of Christ is that He used – and continues to use – imperfect people to walk out His perfect will.

The following prayers prove it.

They are words uttered from the lips of everyday, ordinary people, just like you and I. They needed Him just as much as we still do today. So take courage knowing you are not alone in your need of a gentle and loving Savior.

 Habakkuk’s Prayer – Habakkuk 3:2

“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.”

Moses Asks For God’s Favor – Exodus 33:13

“Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight.”

David Prays For Guidance – Psalm 51:1-8

“O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.”

Paul Prays For Believers – Philippians 1:9-11

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

Jonah Prays Thanksgiving and Commitment – Jonah 2:2-9

“When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

Jesus Teaches How To Pray – Mathew 6:9-13

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

Carving Out Time For God In The Midst Of Your Busy Life

With a million things to do and not enough hours in the day to get it done, it's easy to zone out and slip into autopilot in order to survive. But perhaps life is not about adding more things to your already lengthy list, but rather, about pausing in the midst of it all to consider if what you're doing is really important.
