He Makes Brokenness Beautiful

By November 23, 2016 No Comments

Recently my little guy broke his leg (which you would never know from the big smile across his face).

He was simply monkeying around like little boys do… he accidentally slipped down the stairs… landed funny on his tibia…. and just like that he had a clean stress fracture and a 6-10 week-long cast.

As the nurse bandaged his leg, I heard her telling him the coolest encouragement:

“Did you know this bone will grow back stronger and better? It’s true. The rest of your body will take extra good care of it and help it heal again. Before you know it, you’ll be running faster and further.”

A few days later this quote popped up in my Pinterest feed:

Japanese Quote

A few days after that I read this timely passage of scripture:

”We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:7-9

It’s as if God Himself comes alongside us to pour beautiful gold over our cracks.

When we feel flawed and irreparable, He reminds us there’s beauty in our brokenness. When we accidentally slip and fall, He mends us back together. When we feel discouraged by the untimely circumstances all around us, He encourages us by reminding us of the version of ourselves that’s waiting on the other side.

Then He spreads a huge smile across our face in such a way that people wonder why we have something to smile about.

Because that’s what He does.

He makes brokenness beautiful.
