There are lots of things in my life I can look back on and regret. But I’ve beat myself up for far too long and I’m ready to move on. I heard a courageous woman who fought cancer once say, “If you spend too much of your time regretting your past it will paralyze you in your efforts to move forward.” So I’m shedding the guilt… I’m shedding the regret… I’m shedding the doubt… and I’m gettin’ me some courage.

I’m committing to make this year amazing. Join me? Here’s how.

Find Your Theme Word.

There’s a notion going around that if you pick one word as theme for your year, it will help give direction to every goal you set. My Senior Pastor is all about this, and on Sunday morning he announced to our congregation that our word for 2014 will be courageous.

I cannot lie, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I attempted to find my own word since, but with every attempt, courageous would knock all the louder. So I’m keeping it.

Courageous is the word I will pray over my life.
Courageous is the word I will use to help me focus my goals.
Courageous is the word I will recite everyday as I strive to live this year with purpose.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

~Joshua 1:9

Happy New Year, friends! Let’s do this. This could be your most thriving, focused and courageous year yet!

With a million things to do and not enough hours in the day to get it done, it's easy to zone out and slip into autopilot in order to survive. But perhaps life is not about adding more things to your already lengthy list, but rather, about pausing in the midst of it all to consider if what you're doing is really important.
