The pressure is real.
Everyday we face competition – to be the best, act the best, look the best, have the best, accomplish more, and make it look like easy breezy in the process.
It’s a numbers game.
How many people are you leading?
How many followers are you boasting?
How much money do you have?
How many toys do you own?
It’s all about head counting, dollar crunching, status tracking and name-dropping.
And then comes the fear.
To accomplish.
To perform.
To achieve.
But then Proverbs 23:17-18 comes along to remind us to step away from envy.
To see.
To think.
To remember.
That wise fear is found in reverence to His Lordship.
Wise living is rooted in submission to His ways.
Wise longing blossoms from a heart fully devoted to His desires.
Suddenly we’re reminded where our true future lies – in hope. To bank on hope.
To trust in it.
Feel secure in it.
Be satisfied with it.
Long for it.
And wait for it.
“Don’t for a minute envy careless rebels; soak yourself in the Fear-of-God— That’s where your future lies. Then you won’t be left with an armload of nothing.”
