One of my favorite things to do in the city I live, is hike. I live in a valley that is surrounded by mountainous terrain. At any given time of day I could be in the mountains within minutes and it has become a favorite family staple as we prioritize “Wonder & Wander” into our quality family time.
This past weekend was such a weekend.
Up the steep hills we climbed, and back down the winding stairs we shuffled, but on all sides we were surrounded by ground to sky evergreens.
At one point during our hike I stopped and said to my husband, “Just think of all the roots we don’t see. Every single tree is grounded by a root system that keeps it sturdy and strong. If not for the roots, this beautiful landscape could be easily devastated by a mad gush of wind.” He replied, “That’s why trees can’t be easily shaken.”
Isn’t that such a great visual – to live in such a way that our faith would be as unwavering as a deeply rooted tree?
”Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” –Colossians 2:7
May our faith be deeply rooted.
”They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” –Jeremiah 17:8
