A couple of weeks ago my mother-in-law sent a group text to myself, my husband, as well as all the siblings & spouses in the family. It’s not abnormal for her to do this, in fact, she is always texting us prayers and passages of scripture that she is praying over us. But the timing of this particular text made me laugh out loud.
Rewind to a month previous and you find my husband having a discussion with his business friends about great ways to store passwords. I’m sure you’ve experienced the pain of trying to log into something, and voila!, you can’t remember the password. “Seriously”, he said, “there’s gotta be something to make it easier.”
This line of questioning led to app reviews, blog searches, Google checks, and Skype debates, which led to a marital conversation about how we might be able to organize our online entrepreneurial lives and store our passwords better. You have no idea how many logins we have. He runs his own business. I run my own. Some accounts we share, some we don’t. I alone have 12 social media accounts…. so our password situation can be an uber thorn in our sides.
The day I received my mother-in-law’s text was a day that found me pulling out my hair over login fails. LinkedIn wasn’t budging and Amazon was being stubborn and I was really ready to karate chop the crap out of my computer.
That’s when I read the following…
“Enter with the password: ‘Thank you!’ Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him.” Psalm 100:4
Hilarious, right?
See what He does?
That’s when I shut my computer.
I sheepishly laughed.
Walked over to my living room.
Knelt down at the couch.
And I spent a solid 10 minutes thanking God for everything and anything that came to mind.
It should be the first thing I do.
It should be the first thing you do.
It should be the first thing we all do.
When we’re having a hard time logging into peace… thank Him.
When we’re having a hard time logging into hope… thank Him.
When we’re having a hard time logging into joy… thank Him.
It’s the only password we need.
No matter what hat we’re wearing, what role we’re living, what responsibility we’re fulfilling, what season we’re experiencing, and what “account” we’re trying to access, ‘Thank You!’ should be the pass words right out of our lips.

“On your feet now—applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this: God is God, and God, God. He made us; we didn’t make him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep. Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever.” Psalm 100 (MSG)
