Pack The House

By August 25, 2016 No Comments

I went to an event earlier this month to listen to an internationally acclaimed spiritual leader share her thoughts on life.

I had never heard of this girl before and didn’t know what to expect, but since she has 250,000 followers on twitter, seven bestselling books, huge influence within the spiritual and intellectual community, I figured she’d have something interesting to say. That and, it would be a great evening out with friends. Plus, my ticket was free. Score!

Note: I will keep her name anonymous on purpose.

The lecture started out great.

She spoke a lot about love.
She spoke a lot about faith in action.
She spoke a lot about acts of service.

And since these three themes are what I am most passionate about, I instantly began mentally arranging for her and I to be brand new besties.

Until it went south.

Suddenly she started talking about letting out our inner spirits. “We all need to change the world,” she said. “We all need to dig deep to find our inner strength,” she said. “We need to stop looking at other people to find our worth and start looking inside,” she said.

I felt sick – not because what she had to say was downright terrible, but because our inability as humans to accomplish these things in our own strength IS what is destroying the world.

We keep trying to live better. But we fail.
We keep trying to love better. But we fail.
We keep trying to believe better. But we fail.

Until we recognize our need of a Savior, we will always fall short of the glory because our efforts are based on frail capacity.

My heart was so grieved.

Not because of that event.
Not because of that speaker.
Not even because her talk went south.

But because the house was packed.

The cheers, the claps and the obvious soul searching that was taking place in that room made me want to go home and be a stronger Christian.

Attention Church…

The world needs us. Now more than ever.

We need to start filling our own living rooms with “events” that bring hope, good news, love and truth.

That’s the kind of packed house we need.

I realize this post isn’t touchy feel good. But we cannot ignore what needs to be done.

So go ahead.
Pack the house.
Ask Him how He’d like to use you to reach this world?

With a million things to do and not enough hours in the day to get it done, it's easy to zone out and slip into autopilot in order to survive.
