Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
~Galatians 6:2
I talked on the phone today for three hours.
For anyone who knows me, that’s almost equivalent to torture – I’m not a phone person. But for some reason it was necessary. Today I needed it.
One hour was spent talking to my middle sis, Esther. The other two hours were spent talking to my youngest sis, Beth. My “little” sisters took time out of their busy schedules to listen to me sort through my life baggage.
They were gracious.
They were gentle.
They were loving.
They were supportive.
But they were firm.
“Cin, you’ve got to stop being so hard on yourself. Seriously, when was the last time you did something for you; something you enjoy doing?” -Es
“K sis, be honest, when was the last time you laughed?” –B
Those conversations were timely. They reminded me of three simple, yet very profound truths.
One. Something really freeing happens when we let our guards down and share our hardships. Somehow the burdens of life feels lighter.
Two. Something really bonding happens when we allow the people we love to pour their insight and wisdom into our lives. When we are weak, they are strong.
Three. Something really therapeutic happens when we take wise advice and actually put it into practice – a task much easier said than done.
God never intended for us to walk this life alone. And he certainly never intended for us to carry the weight of the world all by our lonesome.
Reach out.
Be vulnerable.
Accept help.
