“Don’t stealthily move back the boundary lines or cheat orphans out of their property, For they have a powerful Advocate who will go to bat for them.”
There’s a concept floating around these days that talks a lot about the importance of boundaries – guard yourself from this, protect yourself from that, don’t go all-in over here, be alert and aware over there. And for goodness sake, learn to say no!
It’s a lifestyle filled with good intentions – which is basically challenging each of us to give intentional thought to how we spend our time and with whom we invest our efforts.
But then Proverbs 23:10-11 comes along to challenge us. It’s as if God is whispering, “Don’t be so concerned with the physical boundary lines that you are too busy for the spiritual ones.”
Meaning, don’t adjust a boundary line to suit the schedule and convenience of your life if it’s contrary to the type of engagement Christ is calling you to do.
Don’t walk away from helping…
Don’t believe someone else with rally…
Don’t think somebody else with champion the cause…
Don’t assume someone else will speak on their behalf…
And don’t pass the buck in hopes that someone else will stand up to do what needs to be done when it might just be within your power to do something.
The very property that Christ is referring to is you, me, us collectively. We are the property – the belonging, the effect, the quality, the characteristic, the attribute, the feature, the mark, the thing – that holds incredible responsibility to act, be, do, offer, lend, help, influence, shape, inspire and change.
We are a lifestyle filled with God intentions – and the Gospel, my friends, has no boundaries.
